Ranch Is Sold For Sanctuary

Reno Evening Gazette, Saturday, May 14, 1938

ELKO, Nev., May 14 (Special) -- Completion of the purchase of the Kelley ranch in Ruby Valley for a bird sanctuary was reported by Mr. and Mrs. George Kelley here Thursday.

Originally the government planned to take over the entire marsh, about thirty thousand acres, making it a game sanctuary upon which all hunting would be permitted. However, this plan has not yet been completed.

Mr. and Mrs. Kelley sold their holdings for $38,000 and have received $30,000 of this amount from the government. They are to be paid the remainder shortly when the deed will be given to the government. Options have been secured on other ranches in the area.

Mrs. Kelley said they had recently purchased the Ruby Valley store and intended to run it after taking an extended vacation.

Evelyn Kelley, nee Bressman d/o of Jacob and Mary Ellen Bressman
