LETUKAS

Picture postcard. Letukas brother, perhaps Pranas? Could this be Amelie, his sister, or is this his wife? I don't know. I know the picture was taken in 1931, but that's all I can figure out.

Tool Clogged Wheel And Caused Death

Investigation Into Death of Tony Seidar Brings New Facts to Light.

That the breaking of an emery wheel was caused by a tool clogging the machine was brought out at the coroner’s inquest yesterday in the testimony of Herman Myrold, 115 Winnebago street, an employe (sic) of the Ross P. Beckstrom company, who was with Tony Siedar (sic) at the Mechanics plant early this week when Seidar was struck in the head by a piece of the broken wheel and died several hours later at the hospital. Myrold and Seidar were working on the machine sharpening a bit which Myroid was holding against the side of the wheel.

The tool slipped and fell into the machine clogging its progress and the wheel broke. A large piece flying through the air and striking Seidar, rendering him unconscious. He was taken to St. Anthony hospital where he died several hours later.

N.B. This article and others that will be posted use the surname Seidar, not Letukas. I do not know if Antanas changed his name to Seidar or if the reporter took down an incorrect name. It is clear that this accident is referring to Antanas Letukas based on the info it contains and the correlation of the same with Antanas' death certificate.

Tony Seider

Tony Seider of 508 East Edwards street, died at St. Anthony hospital yesterday morning at 4 o’clock as the result of a fracture of the skull suffered Wednesday morning at the plant of the Mechanic’s Machine company, when an emery wheel at which he was working burst and a fragment struck him with terrific force in the head.

He was twenty-two years of age and had been employed at the Mechanics’ Machine company since July 5, coming here from Chicago. A brother arrived in Rockford yesterday to take the body to Chicago as soon as the inquest has been held.

Death Put End To Suffering

Tony Seidar, Injured at Mechanic’s Plant, Dies At Hospital

Without regaining consciousness and suffering intense agony every moment of the passing hour, Tony Seidar breathed his last at St. Anthony hospital at 4 o’clock this morning.

Tony was struck by a flying splinter from a grinding machine at the plant of the Mechanic’s Machine company, corner Ninth street and Nineteenth avenue, Wednesday forenoon and was hurried to St. Anthony hospital. The metal had struck him over the left eye and his case was considered hopeless from the first.

He lingered on until near daylight this morning before succumbing to the wounds. Seidar roomed at 508 Edwards street.

Man Injured at Factory Dying; Skull Fractured

Tony Seidar Not Expected to Recover From Blow – Was Alive At Midnight

Tony Seidar, aged 22 years, residing at 508 East Edwards Street, lies at St. Anthony Hospital in a critical condition with a fractured skull and he is not expected to live. Seidar was struck while working at the Mechanics Machine company plant yesterday morning when a piece of metal flew from a water grinding wheel, which broke while he was working over it. He was rendered unconscious by the blow and rushed to the hospital.

An operation was performed yesterday afternoon, which relieved the pressure on the brain. Early this morning he was reported to be very low and his passing was considered only a matter of hours. Seidar has been employed at the Mechanics plant since July 5 and was a faithful worker.

N.B. This article and others that will be posted use the surname Seidar, not Letukas. I do not know if Antanas changed his name to Seidar or if the reporter took down an incorrect name. Factory Hand Fatally Hurt?

Little Hope Held Out For Seidar, Mechanics Machine Co. Employe

The breaking of a water grinder at the plant of the Mechanics Machine Co. this morning may cost the life of Tony Seidar, aged 22 years and residing at 506 East Edwards street.

A piece that flew from the broken wheel struck Seidar in the left temple, fracturing his skull, the injury being of such a serious nature that but little hope for his recovery was held this afternoon at St. Anthony hospital, where the young man was taken in the police ambulance.

Seidar and a companion were operating the water grinder when, it is said, something was dropped into the machine. The grinder broke and one of the flying pieces hit Seidar in the head. He dropped unconscious to the floor and when medical aid reached him it was evident that his condition was serious.

Drs. P.L. Markley and H. R. Rogers performed an operation on him at the hospital this afternoon. The operation was successful, pressure on the brain being relieved, and the young man’s condition was somewhat improved as a result. His chances for recovery are not considered bright, however.

Seidar had been employed at the Mechanics’ plant since July 5.
